I like to show students work because it highlights areas that we all encounter. This painting was the culmination of a lot of effort although it might seem somewhat simple. “Less is more” as they say leaves room for the viewer to use their imagination. The key would be that one could look at a painting everyday and see something different. Several things helped Don to let go and let the watercolor paint itself. One, was using a timer to stop yourself from painting too much, too soon. It really works! Two, was working on a full sheet. This gives the paint room to show what it can do. Three, is doing two paintings at the same time so you’re not tempted to over work an image waiting for it to dry. Indicate , don’t state!
