This was a really interesting exercise that you might want to try. It will help you to find your own “voice” and will also help you to expand your creativity. I was having a problem painting a creek on location. Too much information! This is always the problem painting on location. It look, smells, feels great but when you try to capture that on paper it has a way of taking off. After a couple of overdone attempts I finally simplified it enough to make it work. Then I wanted to see if painting in a completely different style would make a difference. First painting was mostly positive, second painting almost all negative. I painted around the shapes instead of painting the shapes. Then I painted one with no reference to look at. Just from memory. Cool way to explore your artistic “styles”. Try it!
Hey Joe,
You’re getting abstract! I love it. Captures the primeval quality of the light … very nice.
